And it’s a Wrap – Industry Insiders 2015

Over the past few weeks students have had the opportunity to visit some of the leading ICT companies/agencies in Malta. The visits were conducted at ICTSA’s 5 Gold Sponsors: MITAKPMG Crimsonwing , ShireburnCCBill, and Bit8.

Through these visits students had the opportunity to see first hand the inner workings and corporate cultures at play. In these 6 Visits, students were also exposed to different careers within these organisations and the industry as a whole. ICTSA would like to thank all the students that took part and our sponsors for hosting us.

Every year, ICT students get the unique opportunity to visit a number of companies operating within the ICT sector through ICTSA’s Industry Insiders.

This year, we will conduct visits to 5 different companies. Some visits will be targeted to students from specific courses, however all are welcome. Technolawgical: The iGaming Conference

Għaqda Studenti Tal-Liġi and ICT Students’ Association have worked together to put forward the event: ‘TechnoLAWgical: The iGaming Conference’.

The conference will take place in the morning, and will include two panels of esteemed professionals in the field of iGaming. The first will discuss ‘iGaming in Malta and Europe’, an introductory session explaining the background of the field. The second will revolve around a fictitious case-study, in order to bring practical aspects to the fore. There will also be an iGaming Job Opportunities Workshop, which will cater for law students and ICT students separately.

Malta’s iGaming industry has flourished over recent years, allowing for a significant increase in career opportunities in both legal and technological fields, and ultimately establishing the country as one of the front runners of iGaming.

The purpose of this conference is to bridge the gap between the two professions, making it relevant to both law and ICT students.

  • For Law students, it should be of particular interest to those studying gaming law, as well as those who lack basic knowledge of the topic and would like an introduction.
  • For ICT students, the conference will provide key insight into the gaming industry, placing future software developers in a more professionally advantageous position.

The workshop is to be jobs-oriented, and will be conducted in collaboration with Castille Resources. It will deal with what companies do, what they need and what they look for when looking for prospective employees. Windows 8.1 Dev Contest | second cycle submission deadline, April 30th!

So you missed submission for the first cycle on April 6th, but do you really want to miss on the second cycle?

Microsoft extended app submission deadline to April 30th, make sure to submit your app.

Here’s what to do:

  • Apps registered in first cycle (till April 6th) will get feedback and support on design and UX and you will have a chance to improve the apps and re-submit the apps till April 30th.
  • All developers that haven’t managed to submit apps into first cycle, can still submit their apps into second cycle (till April 30th) and compete for prizes, but will not get benefit of help & support on application UX and design.

The Awards

16 Nokia Lumia 1520 will be awarded to winners of:

  • Best UX design local categories
  • Regional categories:
    • Best UX design
    • Mostly downloaded App
    • Mostly rated app
    • Highest rated app

30 Prestigio Multipad Visconte Windows tablets will be awarded to winners in the rest of the categories

ICTSA’s TMDI 2014 – Now Officially launched

After last year’s success, The Million Dollar Idea is back, bigger than ever! ICTSA is proud to present its very own I.T. Start-up competition. This year’s edition will take place on Friday 7th to Sunday 9th March and will be held at the Microsoft Innovation Centre, Skyparks, Luqa.

The Million Dollar Idea is a project that has been developed to increase and encourage students to take their innovative ideas and turn them into a business reality. Competitors are required to devise a presentation along with a basic business plan, market research and the overall strategy over the weekend.

All students attending University of Malta, MCAST, St. Martin’s Institute, St. Aloysius College, De La Salle, G.F Abela Junior College, Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School, St. Edwards and Sir M.A Refalo are eligible to participate and entrance is free. Work spaces will be set up at the Microsoft Innovation Centre and participants can work and sleep overnight. Students are encouraged to form teams (maximum of 4).

Applications, prizes and additional information will be published in the following days. Stay tuned!

6pm signs agreement with ICT Students to supply QuickPM subscriptions

6pm has signed a collaborative agreement with the Information and Communications Technology Students’ Association under which it will offer financial support packages and student subscriptions to QuickPM.

QuickPM is an applied knowledge base derived from 25 years’ experience in delivering personal and business benefits. Students registering and subscribing to QuickPM will have access to an environment where experience and knowledge fuse together and propel one with confidence in today’s competitive job world.

ICTSA president Tamara Caligari said the collaboration with 6pm will help it in its mission to offer various opportunities to ICT students to assist them in their academic needs as well as provide as many resources as possible while they study.
